OCEANSIDE – A 27-year-old man was behind bars Wednesday on suspicion of driving under the influence after he allegedly struck and killed a pedestrian while fleeing from another crash at an Oceanside intersection.
The initial crash was reported shortly after 10:15 PM Tuesday at the intersection of Douglas Drive, Oceanside police said.
Officers responding to the scene found an unconscious pedestrian laying in the eastbound lanes of Mission Avenue east of the intersection.
The pedestrian, a 65-year-old man whose name was withheld pending family notification, was pronounced dead at the scene.
