CAMPO – The crash happened just before 7:00 PM on state Route 94, also known as Campo Road.
1 person was killed and three others were airlifted to hospitals following a two-vehicle collision Friday night on state Route 94 in Campo, authorities said.
The crash happened just before 7:00 PM on Campo Road, according to the California Highway Patrol and Cal Fire San Diego.
A Kia sedan collided with an older-model work pickup, according to a CHP incident log.
One person was apparently trapped in one of the vehicles, and at least one of two dogs involved in the crash was injured.
Officials with Cal Fire tweeted that three patients were airlifted to hospitals, while a fourth person “did not survive.”
No information about the victim was immediately available, and the circumstances of the crash were still under investigation late Friday night.
At 8:20 PM, the Highway Patrol incident log showed officers at the scene requested personnel from the Medical Examiner’s Office, and the incident was re-categorized as a fatality.
Caltrans San Diego tweeted that Campo Road was shut down in both directions until about 8:40 PM, after which time crews at the scene were operating one-way traffic control.
