One person killed in crash on I-5 in downtown San Diego

SAN DIEGO – One person was killed Wednesday in a crash on a stretch of Interstate 5.

The fatality occurred shortly after 11:00 AM on the southbound side of the freeway, just west of of the 163 near downtown, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The victim, whose identity was not immediately available, died at the scene of the accident, which left three lanes blocked and led to heavy congestion in the area, the CHP reported.
