NATIONAL CITY – A man was killed early this morning in a two-vehicle crash on the Interstate 5 freeway in National City, the California Highway Patrol said.
The crash happened on the northbound freeway, just north of State Route 54, occurred at 4:51 AM, the CHP reported.
According to a CHP incident report, the crash involved a black Toyota Tacoma truck hitting a parked car on the left shoulder of the I-5 North.
The truck flipped, hitting two more cars; the teenage driver of one car suffered minor injuries but the driver of the second car hit died at the scene.
According to media reports, the truck driver fled the scene on foot and is currently at large.
All lanes of the northbound I-5 freeway were shut down, then re-opened at 10:40 AM.
