SAN DIEGO – A sedan and a school district truck collided head-on at an intersection near Mount Helix Friday, injuring three people, including an infant, authorities reported.
The crash on Avocado Boulevard in Rancho San Diego occurred about 10:30 AM, when a southbound Cajon Valley School District Ford pickup towing a utility trailer veered out of a left-turn lane directly in the path of an oncoming 2011 Ford Fusion driven by a 23-year-old El Cajon woman, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The resulting collision sent both vehicles careening to the east into a residential front yard, CHP said.
Emergency crews found a baby in a child safety seat face-down in the back of the car, police said. Medics took her and the two drivers to hospitals, the adults with serious but non-life-threatening trauma and the child with injuries believed to be minor.
Preliminary evidence indicated that the 55-year-old school district employee made an unsafe turning movement that caused him to lose control of his work vehicle, according to police.
