EL CAJON – Four people were hospitalized Tuesday morning with serious injuries suffered in a fiery crash.
Police responded around 9:00 PM Monday to reports of a vehicle which had driven into an embankment and flipped multiple times, El Cajon Police Department said.
The first officers who arrived at the scene found a Toyota minivan engulfed in flames and the four victims, described as being in their mid-to-late teens or early 20s, ejected from the vehicle and lying in the road. A preliminary investigation, including witness statements, determined the driver of the Toyota was traveling northbound at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the van, left the road and crashed into the rock wall embankment, police said. The vehicle began to roll and all four occupants were ejected. The vehicle caught fire and the flames spread. The fires were quickly extinguished by Heartland Fire and Rescue.
