SAN DIEGO – SDG&E officials said the utility was considering precautionary power shutoffs for more than 40,000 customers.
Shutoffs would be implemented to de-energize power lines in danger of being damaged by strong winds and potentially sparking fires.
Homes and business are not the only components of the electrical grid affected by power shutoffs: traffic lights are also impacted.
The traffic lights were turned off at a busy Poway intersection Wednesday evening at the sight of a vehicle collision, which resulted in a car catching on fire and creating fears that those flames could spark a brush fire.
