SAN DIEGO – Four workers were injured Thursday morning, one seriously, in an accident at a construction site on the UC San Diego campus.
Dispatchers received a call shortly after 8 AM from a person requesting help near Mandler Hall on the university’s campus, San Diego Fire-Rescue said.
Workers were building a mixed-use community called North Torrey Pines Living and Learning Neighborhood when rebar collapsed and struck the four men, UCSD spokeswoman said.
Medics took the victims to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla, one with major head trauma and the others with minor injuries.
Work at the construction site was halted for the day due to the accident, the spokeswoman said.
