Two people died after crashing down an embankment outside of Fallbrook on Sunday afternoon, California Highway Patrol and North County Fire Protection District said.
The driver was headed southbound on Old Highway 395 and lost control, crashing at the intersection of Old Highway 395 and Reche Road around 2:00 PM Sunday.
A black Ford veered off the west side of the road, went down a 30-foot ravine and crashed into a large tree, the California Highway Patrol said.
The driver, a 42-year-old man from Fallbrook, and a 39-year-old woman from Oceanside were ejected from the vehicle during the crash. They were pronounced dead at the scene.
California Highway Patrol will handle the investigation.
